Constellation Energy
America's largest wholesaler of electricity is Constellation Energy. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, the firm is also the largest competitive supplier of electricity to businesses and industries across the nation.
Ranking consistently in the Fortune 200 list, Constellation Energy has a diversified power-generating fleet supplying renewable energy among other comprehensive choices. Scattered in more than a hundred points across the U.S., the company operates with a 15,000-megawatt peak power load capacity.
Under its Constellation NewEnergy banner, the firm is a leading generator of renewable energy in America. Originally called New Energy Ventures, Constellation NewEnergy has operated for as long as there have been competitive energy businesses. New Energy Ventures made history in 1997 when it powered a direct-access client from Rhode Island. In September 2002, Constellation Energy Group bought New Energy Ventures for $260 and assimilated it as Constellation NewEnergy.
The Constellation Energy Group of Companies breaks cartels and monopolies and opens wider markets through legislation and initiatives.

Environmental Efforts
Constellation Energy offers alternative solutions to fossil fuels, including a wide range of eco-friendly energy sources such as sun, wind, biomass, and water.
In 2006, Constellation Energy won the bid to provide wind energy for ten years to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). Constellation NewEnergy (CNE) will provide 30 megawatts of electricity starting 2008. This is a massive step forward for WSSC, which aspires to derive a third of its power from wind.
The WSSC also participates in Constellation's load response program. Also known as demand response, load response is Constellation Energy's way of curbing excessive energy usage. When supply is ebbing, participating consumers are urged to reduce their electricity consumption and essentially minimize the load of the regional power grid. In addition to saving energy, this also prevents blackouts. Participants are rewarded either in cash or credits for unused energy. In case of grid glitches, Constellation Energy provides self-sufficient systems.
The Constellation Energy Group of Companies has also invested in more sustainable power generation. With $190 million in recent years alone, the firm has continually acquired low-emission technology.
Constellation Energy's commitment to minimize its footprint on the world's ecology extends to its collaboration with the Department of Energy and four other companies to invest in the supply of bio-energy. For three years in a row, Constellation Energy has held first place in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), the benchmark for companies aiming for excellence in the economy, environment, and society. Constellation Energy has also been recognized by Green-e as New York's and New England's most prolific green energy supplier.
