Mayer Brown
One of the largest and oldest law firms in the world with 1,800 law practitioners on board, Mayer Brown’s roots of practicing the art of law come from the 19th century and from all over the world. The firm has three separate entities: John Stokes and Master which was founded in 1863 in Hong Kong, Mayer Brown which was created in Chicago in 1881, and Rowe and Maw which was founded in the United Kingdom in 1895 and joined the Mayer Brown organization in 2002.
Today, Mayer Brown has 21 strategically placed satellite offices all over the world, including the United States, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Germany, France, and the UK. Mayer Brown is currently working on its entry into the South American legal scene with a startup point in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Mayer Brown is currently headed by the following persons:
- Jim Holzhauer - Chairman of Mayer Brown
- Mary Richardson-Lowry - Chair, Committee on Diversity and Inclusion
- Rodney Alexander - Litigation Partner, Charlotte Office
- Sonia Baldia - Corporate Partner, Washington, D.C. Office
- Michael Butowsky - Finance Partner, New York Office.
Driven by success in court wars in almost any environmental issue, Mayer Brown has aided its clients in managing or avoiding any kind of environmental fix. Mayer Brown’s environmental law practice is divided into three key fields: environmental litigation, environmental issues in transactions, and environmental compliance.
Mayer Brown’s lawyers’ expertise on environmental law deals with land contamination and brownfields issues; waste and materials management; permitting, operational changes, and facility expansions; and construction, development, and toxic torts.
But aside from battling out in the courts, Mayer Brown also gets involved in pro-environmental projects such as the environmental cleanup drive in the city of Chicago, an activity where other Chicago-based law firms also help out.
